Does anyone have a couple shots, maybe of different team cars, of an open trunk on a 2+2? _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

No pics of an open trunk on a 2+2. I used to own a 1:1 '87 Chevy Aerocoupe and if the trunk on a 2+2 was anything like the Monte, it was a standard trunk but with a very small opening. There was a lot of structure surrounding the opening once the lid was up. I could barely get a military duffel bag through the opening, took some stuffing. Once past the opening there was plenty of space.
One thing I recall about that trunk was the labeling. There was a label inside the lid that listed each and every special part with part numbers for all the parts making the car into the Aerocoupe. I never wrecked it, so didn't find out how well that would work out. |

Worth noting that the Tin Indian NASCAR teams would no doubt lighten the trunk lid by removing much of the interior bracing. Also that fiberglass rear spoiler would not pass tech. |

Worth noting is the rear window, there is NO sharp bends on the sides of the rear window. The Monte Carlo Aerocoupe had a sharp bend on the side of the rear window, the Pontiac 2+2 had a smooth transition, that is on both the street car and the race cars. They missed that on the new kit, so they miss the correct look. |

Back when they first came out we went to a dealership to see them, somewhere in Ormond beach. There was a guy there who had considered one until he tried to get his basketball through the open trunk. It went with a shove but, he said it would be too much hassle. I know I've seen in the trunk of one of the stock cars years ago and most of the stock business was gone but, I can't remember how it was re-framed. _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." Thanks Orangeastre, he had the pic and oddly enough they didn't remove much material back there at all. Looks like a Monogram chassis in a 2+2. Imma try and make my first one with an opening trunk. I'll do a fab shop build here as soon as my kit arrives. _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

The petty shots were taken a few months ago. The Michael Waltrip a few years ago. Notice the difference in hinge systems.

Here is a pic of a 2+2 and a MC Aerocoupe side by side.
