It must not be my day. That last couple of times I've started my Altima, the battery seemed a bit weak. The battery is less than two years old so I was a bit puzzled. So, today I open the hood of the car and virtually ever obscene word I have every heard or used came pouring out in one sentence. Seems the #*^%!&$# squirrels built a nest UNDER THE HOOD of my car. That is bad enough but the %@*^$#* chewed through the top of my battery and part way through my battery cable. I drive that car 3 or 4 times a week so it's not like it just sits. I swear that my life's mission will now be to make gray squirrels extinct.

I'm sure if you gently pick them up and pet them, they will leave and not come back. Word of caution, their teeth can crack a hard shell nut......

Seems more like something RED squirrels would do. Red squirrels chewed up a bunch of wiring in our last car, so far nothing bad has happened to our new one! We have both reds and greys here and never have had any problems with the greys. Good luck!

I've often said something similar. "Just a rat getting a lucky shake from society because his tail is fluffy." Laughing

My ex wife had a problem with squirrels at her place once. She finally had some pros come and capture them and take them away. Not allowed to kill them here. She had them back in a few days. Seems squirrels can navigate better than Christopher Columbus and they are masters at city travel. She should have divorced them, I haven't been back for decades Smile

Our neighbor got fined big time for relocating squirrels. Seems it is illegal to do!
They say that they are clandestine and if you relocate one it will be shunned by any other clan and will starve because they will attack it every time it tries to find shelter or food in their territory.

I call them rats with bushy tails! Laughing

Supposedly some of the high-end German cars, like BMW and Audi, use vegetable-oil derived insulation for the wiring, due to German or EU environmental laws.

It's said to be more biodegradable than petroleum-derived plastics, but the problem is that the rodents LOVE to eat the bio-plastic insulation. BMW service depts. apparently have become accustomed to replacing wiring that's been gnawed by mice/squirrels/rats, etc.
