My copy of that poster is framed & mounted on the wall behind me as I write this. The 1975 STP DODGE has the blue & red colors in the reverse positions on the carbody. Perhaps it was an attempt by the artist to break up the monotony of having the same champion's car shown 3 years out of 4 ???
Or maybe it was a Preview of Cars to Come at Petty Enterprises ??? Let's say - in 1981 & '82 ??? |

That's not what I noticed. More glaring than that. _________________ life is hard, it's harder when you're stupid. John Wayne |

The Petty cars are all correct in the 53 years of champs poster that I have.
And they've corrected the wrong color stripe on Elliott's car.
But there's still issues with Benny Parson's car. The 20 year poster displays the '72 Chev Monte Carlo. He ran most of his races, earned his only win, and clinched the title in that famous finale at Rockingham in a '73 Chevelle.
The 53 years poster shows Parsons in something unknown, like a mis-drawn Petty Charger.
It also shows David Pearson driving a Talladega bodied Torino for '68. His driver door numbers slant the wrong way - backwards - on the '69.
Minor flaws. Still a pretty cool way to look back at racing history. |

Look's to me like the '71 Roadrunner is a Charger.

The C-pillar on the 1972 Petty Dodge is incorrect. The 1971-72 Dodge Chargers had a C-pillar that was wide at the bottom and narrower at the roof. The 1972 Petty dodge looks like they just took the 1973-74 drawings and made minor fixes to the markings for the 1972 car.

Edit: On 2nd thought, it could just be that the 1972 Petty car is a Plymouth, which he still ran on short tracks in 1972 after he switched to Dodges for the Superspeedway races, starting at the Talladega race. |

You guys are seeing stuff I'd never see. What i noticed jumped off the poster at me. And I'd looked at the poster for twenty plus years. _________________ life is hard, it's harder when you're stupid. John Wayne |

According to the reference pics I have, the Miller High Life on Allison's '83 rear quarter is placed incorrectly. Reversed. It's been fixed in later editions.
Did Petty run sponsor free in '71? Seem to see a lot of pics with Southern ChryPly or Pepsi on that car. That, too, has been altered later on. |

Guess I wasn't enough of an Elliott fan 'cause it looked just right to me:)
I wouldn't have gotten it if it was the only car in the pic!

Just a wild guess but should Cale's 1977 car be sponsored by Busch beer? |

Cale's Busch Beer sponsorship didn't start until the 1978 Season. |

I'm guessing the 1975 Richard Petty paint scheme is wrong - the red and the blue are reversed |

Everyone can stop guessing, Mack gave it up a few posts back - gold stripe on the 1988 champ. Should be blue. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...
