New project is to build the '65 Galaxies of Jnr Johnson and Cale Yarborough
Can anyone explain the number change for Junior's car?
Beginning of the year it ran as #27 at the Daytona 500, carried over from running same number in '64.
By April at North Wilkesboro it's #26, great pictures in Greg Fielden's NASCAR chronicles book. It stayed as #26 into 1966 when Junior ran a Fairlane
I'm guessing that the number change might have come about because Banjo was running as #27 for Cale in '65
Any info would be much appreciated, thanks |

| Junior's former car owner Banjo Matthews started '65 with Bobby Johns and they used Bobby's #7. When Bobby was released he took his #7 back to his own Pontiacs and Junior agreed to give Banjo his former #27 that they had used in '64 when Junior drove for Banjo. |

Didn't realise that Junior drove for Banjo in '64, after switching from Ray Fox/Dodge |
