I was very worried when they did not show Ryan being removed from the car and then the broadcast ended so suddenly they never showed the order of finish. Reminded me of the Earnhardt wreck

The very subdued post-race demeanor of Mike Joy and Jeff Gordon spoke volumes, as did at one point a cut to a long shot of the scene. It felt too much like February 2001 for comfort. (It also didn't help that Fox had to abruptly end the telecast to jump to prime-time programming, which made things feel like a cliffhanger.)

After two hours preparing for what I thought was inevitable, I felt some relief when the official word came. There's a lot we still don't know, and I am trying to remain cautiously optimistic. For all the safety improvements, oh, how brutal this sport can still be.

What keeps popping into my head is that "not life threatening" doesn't mean "not life altering".........there are still lots of bad outcomes on the table.

Totally agree. I have been thinking the same thing. Until someone in the know holds another press conference to let us know the extent of his injuries or how he is doing, it still is up in the air. Thoughts and prayers still for Ryan and his family

Latest update is " He is awake and speaking with family and doctors." Nothing beyond that...

Considering where we were at 21:00 last night...I'll take it!
Pray it continues to go well.

Just seen a supposed update from Ryan's Dad on the facebook page "Tribute to Fallen Race Drivers"

"Ryan is sitting up and awake and alert, bleeding is in front of head but controllable, bruising on top and left side of head pretty badly, hasn't attempted to walk yet but doctors don't think he will have an issue. Remaining in ICU for now."

If this is true, so thankful that it is not any worse.

Strong like bull! Seriously, if that had happened to a driver that wasn't in great shape, who knows. Glad he's doing well, it sure looked bad.
