Mack, for what it's worth, I used Krylon "Red Pepper" red to do the '69 500.
There's probably someone on here with some knowledge of what the color actually was and will chime but I picked the Red Pepper after looking at LOTS of pics of the '69-'70 cars. Like a lot of the colors of the various liveries, this one can appear significantly different depending on light, film, angle, etc.
I was at the '70 Southern 500 and saw that car up close after the race and also saw the re-creation in the Weatherly museum quite a few times and am pretty confident the Krylon is close.
That's the race that I got a Champion spark plug decal and the "40" off the rear panel of Pete Hamilton's Superbird after the race...wonder if that's enough to rebuild the "real #40 Superbird" once and for all:)

Build a car around a decal?

Provenance...I'd say there's some folks in Gastonia that could build Petes car starting with your decal. lol. _________________ life is hard, it's harder when you're stupid. John Wayne |

The color was '68 Dodge Bright Red/'69 Dodge Charger Red. Very close to Ford Poppy Red, maybe not quite as orange. 2nd from the left in order of "more orange" to "more red":

Do a search on the showcar #6 Daytona.
Seeing the 6 and 71 together, the 6 looked blood red...
Of course, that was 50 years ago, lol! |
