soooo... a while back, my good buddy Dave H. (AKA HurricaneDave3 on here) contacted me and asked if I would build one of his pending builds for him, since his time is gobbled up by, well, life. so I asked him what he had to pick from, and I chose the Chase Elliott #24 Hooters Chevrolet SS. Mostly because:
1. I have already built one, so no surprises
2. white paint and decals for the body, what could cause a problem?
little did I know... I ended up putting more work and detail into this build than any other one I have ever done. have 16 pictures to show... and will detail the details at the end. this will end up being (Very carefully) packed up and shipped from IL to PA this week.
here's the deets:
Tamiya TS-26 pure white for the body, AS-20 insignia white for the chassis;
various metallics and flats for most else, MCW bright orange for the splitter.
ALL decals (body, dash, air cleaner, seat, ignition boxes, windows, tires and wheels) are Powerslide.
superspeedway splitter, shifter, bullet hubs, and all 4 springs from Brandon Miller's store on Shapeways.
filled in the rear for the superspeedway look with styrene strip and putty, made the butt end superspeedway "box" from same strip.
spark plug wires, ignition box wires, and wiring for the steering wheel mounted radio button from small gauge wire; some roll bar padding added via heat shrink tubing.
that's about it. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...

Wow. Super clean ans smooth looking. You nailed the stance and have the tires tucked up under the front fenders perfectly. |

it's always good to build at least one for someone else.
for me.s restore a little of that extra effort that i may let slide on builds that i do for myself.
really nice build. _________________

Looks awesome, nice work.
A quick question on the SS / Camaro grills...
Are the grill openings a decal? I just can't get mine to snuggle up.
Any suggestions?
Is this a repurposed diecast or a plastic kit?
Thanks.

Thanks. The grill is a decal, minus the top of it where there is an indent in the model. Mike left the top off that particular grill decal for this sheet. I just masked and painted the top black when i did the roof rails. Other builds i just used a lot of decal set and took my time.
And it’s a plastic kit. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...
