Just applied some BMF bright chrome for window trim, and it's looking a little TOO bright and glitzy. I was thinking about knocking it down a bit with some thinned dullcote.

Does anyone have a method for dulling down the BMF a bit, without making it too flat?

For me if I clear coat after BMF it knocks the shine down to more of a brushed aluminium look. You may have to do a trial and error approach with some BMF strips on some plastic trying stuff till you get the look you want.

Doesn't BMF offer an aluminum plate foil? I have some, but can't confirm it for you, as its buried in boxes from my move.

Bmf has two chromes. Ultra bright chrome and New and Improved chrome. The ultra bright does look brighter then the new and improved. Don't know what you have. But that might explain something, if you have the older ultra bright chrome.

I've used BMF's Matte Aluminum foil for some of the early '80's subjects where the reference pics showed the chrome trim to have a more subdued shine. Seems like with the new down-size cars in'81 and forward til there wasn't any chrome, that a lot of the car's trim's were almost more of a matte compared to earlier.
Mark is right about the two BMF chromes. The "new and improved" may well be "new and improved" but the UB Chrome is shinier.
