Took 159 hours to build. Used the 1960 Apache 10 kit that was re-released this summer. The trailer is totally scratch built except for the wheels and tires. The race car was built 12 years ago. Some of you may remember it.

SWEET !!!  Very well done Mark. That was actually a HIGH - Dollar rig, considering that at that time some racers were still flat - towing the race car behind their tow vehicle. |

| Great build looks perfect to me. WOW how much things have changed over the years. It would be a fun thing to document someone like Petty's shop and haulers from say 1959 to today would be nice to have the dollars spent each year as well... |

Bill, yes luckily the truck was white so I made ink jet decals on a clear sheet. I was able to blow up the picture of the truck and I think the license plate is mostly correct. It might be off by one letter or number. I just made up a plate for the trailer. The tarp is just standard printer paper fit on the stake bed and then I hit it with hot water to shrink it and then after it dried I painted it with testors flat black acryl. Thanks for your interest in the build. |

Rex's old crew chief Louie Clements son was a regular on this board for a few years. He was a source of a lot of great information.

Yes, if you look close, his name is on the door, right below Rex's name. Mike was a source of great information back when I was building the 60 Impala and all the other Rex cars I did back then. |

That must have been cool. I think I remember that David Pearson was based in Spartansburg too back then. |

Spartanburg had more drivers and owners than Rex and David. Bud Moore shop, Cotton Owens, Billy Wade, Jack Smith, Mario Rossi, James Hylton , GC Spencer, Tommy Irwin , Dick Brooks, Joe Frasson, Elmo Henderson also called Spartanburg home

Wow, I had no idea that many well known racing personalities made Spartansburg their base of operations. I wonder how that all happened. Somebody should write a book about it. |

We were also Bill France first choice for the super speedway that ended up in Talledega. Our esteemed county council listened to a vocal minority in declining the offer.

That's too bad. "Spartansburg 500" has a nice ring to it. Would have brought a lot of business to the state back then. They made a mistake in Texas of putting Texas World Speedway in college station. No one ended up going to it . If they had put it between Galveston and Houston at an old blimp base near Hitchcock it would still be operating today. People could have stayed in Galveston and enjoyed the beach before and after the race. Kinda like they do at Daytona. Oh well , Nascars dieing anyway so it doesn't really matter. |
