Best one I have

When I built my Lee Roy car I had the Yesterday's , Polar Lights/Slixx and a Fred Cady sheet of decals. I was able to get close to the Daytona qualifier and not able to actually replicate the 500 winner.

Dumb question time here. Was the car a Talladega or a standard Torino? Looks like a Talladega.

It was a Talladega. Ford did not want "Talladega" on the car until they were allowed to run the Boss 429. At Daytona in 69 all the Ford's were 427 powered but the cars were Talladega bodied.

In 1070 most of the Talladega's were also marked as Torino Cobras.

That's what threw me off. It has Torino Cobra on the side. Thanks for the info.

Is this the car with the altered wheelbase, allowing it to turn better??
Supposedly Nascar measured one side only in 69.
The spec was plus or minus one inch, but both sides had to be the same.
In 1970, they measured both sides!!

Was this car a specific Ford white? Or just plain old white?

Mack, unless my memory has totally left me,
I remember reading in a Darlinton program in
'70 or so that the #98 was a Fomoco color called
Wimbledon White.

That would be the same as Lorenzens Holman and Moody rides.

Mack, can't be positive on the accuracy of what I read originally but I distinctly remember seeing it when I was at the '70 Southern 500. In that race , the #98 was painted red and being driven by Fred Lorenzen while LeeRoy recuperated from the crash at Texas in April. What made it stand out was I remember thinking "what in the world does a fancy tennis place in England have to do with race car paint"Smile and it stuck with me until I later encountered Wimbledon White helping a body guy at a construction company.
I'll check my programs but it may have been in the Florence paper or possibly the Columbia paper, the State because it would seem the articles in the program may have to have had significant lead time.

I actually painted my #98 build Tamiya Racing White, which is a spot on match for Wimbledon White. I have some Wimbledon white enamel paint and didn't use it because of the extra drying time.
