Before I start the Black Widow I need to get this out of the way.
Revell's Dodge Daytona kit. I was thinking the K&K Insurance
scheme maybe, anything but blue! How much work is needed
to correct any inaccuracies?---John

The kit is a stock showroom Daytona with some So-So racing parts added, most you throw away for a serious Cup build. Biggest issue for me is the wheel wells are to narrow to fit racing tires up into....results in LOTS of work or a Salvinos Olds chassis under it!! |

Thanks. Looks like this sits for a while and I move on to the
Black Widow, I don't need a long term commitment right now.---John _________________ I hear the voices and obey |

Pretty much....it is ALL STOCK.....at least the Daytona has a interior w/o back seat....the Bird is molded in. But being 1/24 it has more room in the wheel wells.....so a trade off...
Makes a nice showroom build BTW

On the Mono Superbird, having to sand off the vinyl roof was a deal breaker for me as far as doing a Nascar build but as Dave mentioned (and showed), It does make a fine looking street model.

The photos are dated 2014 so it's probably the older release. _________________ Forum member since 10/25/2010 |

It's the same as when the kit was new. It was re-issed twice (I think) before the latest, and those did not have the racing parts except for the hemi air breather on the chrome tree.
The current issue ( # 94 on box) is the same as the original with the exception that Goodyear is no longer engraved on the tires. |

The racing version is neither fish nor fowl........kinda reminds me of NASCAR kits in the early 1960's were they added a simple roll bar and called in a CUP car..... |

is the nose cone on this version still a pain to get to look right? I remember reading it was a mess when the Pro Modeler version came out. |

327, not sure what difficulties you're referencing but other than the fact that the original Pro-Modeler came with a photo-etch screen that was a little fiddly to get bent exactly and applied to the nose, the nose fit the car fine. It does have (or did) the rubber gasket molded to the nose piece which you may or may not want to keep but if not, a couple of trips around it with a 400 grit sanding stick will take care of that. That kit, while not having nearly all you need to build a stock car, is well engineered and goes together well.

I used the original release of the kit on this build. It was a while ago, but I don't remember having any issues wit the nose. Although I did botch the front wheel openings, LOL..

Maybe you are thinking of the MPC/AMT Dodge Daytona? Those molds got modified multiple times so that the nose didn't fit right or look accurate in later reissues.
The Revell kit had a pretty accurate shape from the start IIRC, it was not subjected to the modifications that the MPC / AMT version was. |

Inside roof was originally white, like most all other Nichels 500s, out of the gate.
There is a pic out there of the K&K on the Salt flats with the interior roof in white. |

Forgot to mention. The interior is semi gloss, to almost flat in color, depending on the angle and lighting of the photo.
Nichels used lacquer paint, inside and out.
The inside wasn't buffed up, outsides were! |
