Any tips on the best way to remove tape residue from the surface of a body painted with Tamiya from a can. Goo B Gone seems to leave a film and I wasn’t sure it rubbing alcohol would effect the paint. Thanks, Don

Thanks Dave. The soap and water took care of most of it. I tried a little Goo Be Gone on the rest and that worked. More soap and water cleaned it up nice. FYI I rubbed the Goo Be Gone on an inconspicuous spot and it did take a little bit of paint off so that is clearly not the primary solution.

This is going to sound like a really weird idea but, take a piece of fresh tape, the same you used to mask and tape over the goo then remove the tape. You might have to do it a couple times. doesn't work for all tapes but most.

I know, it's like telling a guy "Lean Into the punch".

The very best and safest to the paint way I've found to remove tape residue is to polish it off. No kidding, try some Novus 2 or 3M Perfect-It or any fine finish polish and I think you'll be pleased. Just make sure the paint has dried enough to polish on.

I have a supply of rubber cement thinner from my old graphic art studio days. Works well for this kind of thing, no filmy residue. Also a rubber "pick-up" block works for this.

Adam's method makes sense - adhesive sticks to itself better than anything.

Like john843, I polish it off using Novus #2. I used to use a wax called "The Treatment" but it's now hard to find.

I wrap a small single layer piece of old t-shirt around my finger, damp it with water and then run it around the lip of the Novus bottle to get just a film of the polish on the rag. It will usually take the goo up on the first swipe.
Smear a little tape on a scrap piece and try it. There's really no "rubbing" as the polish picks it up almost like a solvent but is 100% safe to the paint.

Thanks for all the tips. I wouldn’t have thought to use Novus.
