Not sure where to put this but I always loved trains. I
grew up about a mile or two from a Boston and Albany line
junction in western Mass. back in the 50s and 60s. My
grandfather was a retired brakeman with 40 plus years
with NYC. I watched the lines evolve from NYC to Penn Central
to Conrail and now CSX. This was an undecorated and
unpowered older Athearn Blue Box. I painted it black, was
black plastic, then assembled the wire rails, had to clean
them first, were rusty from sitting for 20 plus years. I then gloss
coated, decaled with Herald King decals and it was done up as
an engine that use to pass through the junction in the late 60s
and very early 70s. Real deal in last picture at NY-Mass. state
line.---John

In the first picture if I am not mistaken the train is leaving Mass. and just about to enter N.Y. I think the cars on the car carriers were Pontiacs from
the GM plant in Framingham, Mass. That picture is from 1968, I visited the Pontiac plant with my vocational high school in 1970 or 71.---John _________________ I hear the voices and obey |

That black PC scheme was great. Nice work on it....I miss those old Blue Box items.....I still have a ton of them mint.....but still miss them. They were affordable and made good looking models. |

Excellent work. I remember my father being in model railroading as a kid and Athearn was the brand he preferred for engines and cars. |

Nicely done engine. I also have boxes of Athearns, Roundhouse, Atlas, AHM, Rivarossi, Train Miniature and some brass pieces! _________________ Forum member since 10/25/2010 |
